The game of water polo is hugely technical, and great play doesn’t just “happen naturally”! By using the same vocabulary throughout the divisions, employing the best drills and technical training, and keeping our attention to detail across all of our coaches, we are able to greatly impact our player’s knowledge and ability!
The core of the Club, our Academy sessions follow an 8-week programme, run year-round and based on the school terms, which focuses on technical learning of the game. The Academy is run on an application basis; players are required to apply online for a spot in their age group, and successful applicants are enrolled in the programme for that term. The only qualifying characteristic is availability – past players get preference, and spots are limited to 25 players per session.
These sessions are a fantastic way for us to give players match experience in a fun and low-pressure environment. Run on a weekly signup basis, there are no commitments or processes to go through; simply buy a ticket for that week’s games and pop in for the hour! Teams play it out through a series of round-robin and playoff games, resulting in an eventual winner. Girls and guys play together, but where Academy sessions are rigorous and technical, the Fun Games are relaxed and social. Fun Game signups change each week and its crucial to keep an eye on the Warriors Whatsapp Group to keep up to date with upcoming fixtures.
Warriors have had senior league teams for many years, having had major success particularly on the Ladies side. Warriors First Team Ladies are 6-time consecutive WP Premier League champions, kicking off their crazy run in 2016. In that time, they have also secured 5 consecutive Currie Cup (Senior National) championships, and numerous other titles. They truly are the Club’s superstar team! We have three other ladies teams playing at all levels of the senior provincial leagues. Our men’s division is currently dormant, having worked their way up from 3rd league to Premier League, and retiring in 2018 due to player & coaching availability. Keep an eye out for future opportunities on the men’s side!
Our annual, 8-week long tournament that we run as preparation for the Term 4 summer season, is a highlight of our calendar! With Jr & Sr Boys and Girls divisions, the Hellfire Cup is a massive event that spans the entirety of Term 3. Games are run on the evenings of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, for 8 straight weeks, regardless of the weather! From humble beginnings, the tournament has grown to include over 360 players, and be one of the most sought-after trophies in the Western Cape. If you’re winning the Hellfire Cup, you’re in great standing for the upcoming tournament season! There are a few unusual rules at play in the Cup, all with the aim of readying our players for the term ahead (and having the most fun possible!)
We are always happy to facilitate private and small group training, with several coaches on call to work with specific elements of the game – i.e. goalkeeping, center forward/back play, body-position technique, swimming, strength work, shooting, etc.
Keep up to date with our latest news.
