We are one of South Africa’s biggest water polo clubs with offerings from U7 to Open Nationals teams. Explore the game, hone your skills and play!
We take humble yet serious view of the game of water polo in our country, and believe that through more players enjoying the game from an early age and for many years, we can improve our performance internationally. However, before that, we want our players to love the sport, respect each other and grow their own community within the game. Our practice sessions are almost always boys and girls together, and outside of the Elite Division, is not segmented by skill and experience – rather, our sessions are held together, allowing all players to benefit from each other in either the ‘leader’ or ‘learner’ role. Both are crucial in our world, and allow for a whole lot of learning.
The core of the Club, our Academy sessions follow an 8-week programme, run year-round and based on the school terms, which focuses on technical learning of the game. The Academy is run on an application basis; players are required to apply online for a spot in their age group, and successful applicants are enrolled in the programme for that term. The only qualifying characteristic is availability – past players get preference, and spots are limited to 25 players per session.
These sessions are a fantastic way for us to give players match experience in a fun and low-pressure environment. Run on a weekly signup basis, there are no commitments or processes to go through; simply buy a ticket for that week’s games and pop in for the hour!
Warriors have had senior league teams for many years, having had major success particularly on the Ladies side. Warriors First Team Ladies are 6-time consecutive WP Premier League champions, kicking off their crazy run in 2016. In that time, they have also secured 5 consecutive Currie Cup (Senior National) championships, and numerous other titles. They truly are the Club’s superstar team!
Our annual, 8-week long tournament that we run as preparation for the Term 4 summer season, is a highlight of our calendar! With Jr & Sr Boys and Girls divisions, the Hellfire Cup is a massive event that spans the entirety of Term 3.
We are always happy to facilitate private and small group training, with several coaches on call to work with specific elements of the game – i.e. goalkeeping, center forward/back play, body-position technique, swimming, strength work, shooting, etc.
Dean Rimmer and Alex Hawkins lead the Academy Programme with an incredible group of coaches that lead and assist various sessions. Our coaches share our philosophies and we are so proud of the team we have. You won’t find better on a technical and personal level!
Alex brings a wealth of experience coaching at all age groups, having won countless gold medals over years with Westerford, Herschel and Western Province teams. He has experience coaching several SA ladies teams and prides himself on his technical approach to the game.
Dean leads the Senior and Elite divisions within the Academy. Like Alex, he has had success at various junior and senior levels within the schools and interprovincial setups, and has played and coached at various SA Age group levels.
Keep up to date with our latest news.
